Description: A Pair of Staffordshire Pearlware Cats with Gold Lustre Gilding - Earthenware This particular 'model' can be seen all over eBay, some are most definitely Chinese copies whilst some are made by the Kent factory. These are fairly easy to pick out. The Kent factory made them well into the 1950s and some examples are earlier still, probably made by Parr & Kent. Unfortunately for us, the Chinese have been able to get their hands on a great deal of the later Kent wares and reproduce them in large numbers. These as mentioned are fairly easy to spot and thus avoid. The Parr & Kent ones are authentic Victorian Pearlware. This specific model has been made from earthenware in a two part mould, clearly shown in the photos. They are reassuringly weighty. Their legs are put on individually when the cat is attached to the base, you can see where the legs are placed on, this is why there are often little separation cracks that occur during firing - all reassuring signs of an authentic antique piece. This one has a Pearlware glaze - the glaze has a pale grey transparent hue. Condition: On both cats there is rubbing to the lustre gilding and other manufacturing flaws like expansion cracks, clay crumb inclusions and glaze blisters. Small but inconspicuous nibbles to the base rim. A few stray crumbs of clay that have been fired within the manufacturing process. The cat on the left is in very good condition with no hairlines or restoration (that I'm aware of). The cat on the right has a hairline down the side of his back - not that notable on display though and it is stable. These will have been together since 'birth' as the rubbing is almost identical. They are a good size 7.5 inches tall. We can send overseas please get in touch for an accurate quote. I will send him very well packaged. Please be aware that postage is not free despite what eBay try to tell us and the cost of high quality packaging isn’t cheap. I don’t make any money on this aspect and as eBay control the entire selling process they now take around 20% of the p & p charge. Listing and template services provided by inkFrog
