Description: 1905 Dutch Children Playing Soccer TUCK Publisher #1391. Collector Item. Nice Item with Value This is a very nice GREETINGS POSTCARD from the publisher TUCK & SONS. This postcard shows two DUTCH CHILDREN (boy and girl) playing SOCCER. This is an ANTIQUE postcard from the early 1900s. The postcard is colorful and attractive. This postcard is from TUCK & SONS Series # 1391, called "Little Hollander". The front of the postcard has green, brown, blue, yellow and red colors. It looks like a water color painting. The two children are running after the ball, and there is a home building in the distance. It is a nice postcard and valuable to collectors. Often, this type of postcard was released in a set of six. The postcard has an artist signature of "BOB" in the front. This is a collector item because of its age, Tuck as the publisher, and their desirability as part of the "DUTCH CHILDREN" collectables. This is a good quality postcard. The postcard is POSTED. It has a cancel date of 1905 from Altoona, PA. It has a divided back, although it was printed during the undivided back era. It was "Chromographed in Saxony". This postcard was published during the UNDIVIDED BACK era. This type of back was used on postcards from 1901-1907. An undivided back is a good indicator of the age of the postcard and its historical significance. During this time period, ONLY THE ADDRESS could be put on the back, and any writing message had to be done on the front. This is a collector item because of its age, and the limited number of such postcards in existence today. Also, collectors like to own a postcard that was published in the beginning years of the postcard hobby. This postcard was published by Raphael Tuck & Sons, who is an important and valued publisher. They published from 1866 through the mid 1960s in England. They first started with publishing Christmas cards printed in their native Prussia, Germany, and then moved to London. They are noted for high quality postcards and ephemera that have a huge appeal to collectors. Tuck’s “Oilette” Series was the first VIEWS postcards published in 1903 and came in sets. These became their most popular cards, and a “standard” model for other publishers. The firm was so well respected that they had the honor of being appointed in 1894 by Queen Victoria as the "Art Publishers to their Majesties the King & Queen of the United Kingdom.” This is a BETTER POSTCARD and good for a collector. The postcard will keep its value! It is sleeved and in good condition. However, please expect some creases, cuts, stains and edge wear due to its age. The photos show the postcard and its back. The postcard is shipped in a sturdy envelope. We only ship within the USA; we do not ship internationally.
