NOW FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION A very unique and compelling late 19th century work by Carl Emil Mucke depicting the presentation of the new born child by the father to the grandparents. Likely created in the Netherlands between 1877 to 1888 in Volendam where Mucke created the family daily life motif that characterized his painting. A genre of representations of Dutchmen in situation of daily life either mundane or extraordinary. This print shows the interior of a home with mother and in child in their nursery with the likely father presenting the newborn to her grandparents. Photogravure Siegburg, Germany The print is marked and but no title can be established. : We assume this is a moment when the Grandparents are seeing new born for first time. Shown by father as mother lies on bed with her child in bedroom. Light, shadows, and detail are beautiful, and the print is signed in the print photogravrue as shown. The bottom left border it is marked CARL MUCKE and what appears to be PINXT or DUNX a close up is shown for your review. The right side of the print border is marked No. 3811 PHOTOGRAVUR SIEGBURG a close up is shown for your review. A stunning early 20th Century image preserved in excellent condition with expected aging. The large format print is mounted on approximate 1/8" board, and presents in remarkable condition despite the slight rubbing and color fading and border edge fading that would be expected with age. Measure 28 1/2" X 23 1/8" fullImage without borders is 25 1/8" X 19 3/8" Carl or Karl Mucke also known as Carl Emil Mucke. Mücke was born as the son of the painter Heinrich Mücke in Düsseldorf. Since 1844, his father was an instructor for anatomy at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, from 1848 professor. At the Academy of the Father, where he taught until 1867, Mücke studied from 1863 to 1870. Afterwards he was a private student of the genre painter Wilhelm Sohn for a time. [1] His cousin, Karl Rudolf Sohn, who was also a private student there, painted a portrait of Muecke in 1875. [2] Like the father and almost all the other painters of Dusseldorf, Mücke joined the Malkasten artists' association. [3] From the 1870s to the 1890s, he often lived in the Netherlands, from 1877 to 1888 in Volendam, where he found the motifs that were characteristic of his painting: genre representations of Dutchmen in situations of daily family life, often of women and children Children in costumes, in the company of cats and dogs, in old-Dutch interior, or at sea. Muecke's works were also represented at exhibitions in Düsseldorf, Munich and Berlin. He moved to Düsseldorf in 1889.
