Description: Thanks for checking out this listing! The vital statistics: one 1917-R Italy 2 lire coin; KM# 55; silver 0.8350 fineness, 10 g (0.35 oz) weight, actual silver weight 0.2685 troy oz, 27 mm (1.06 in) diameter. The obverse features a right facing bust of king Vittorio Emanuale III. On the reverse is a female figure (a widely used allegory for Italy) standing in a quadriga, a chariot used from the time of ancient Rome until the European middle ages for sport racing. Four horses harnessed abreast was favored for racing, as opposed to the "four in hand" harness system that placed two horses in front and two in back, which was used for everyday transportation. This coin is brilliant and almost in uncirculated (AU) condition. The only clear evidence of wear is smoothing of the hairlines on the obverse bust and scattered hairline scratches in the obverse and reverse fields. The item in the photo is the one you would receive upon purchase. This is a raw coin, offered for sale as is. If you are dissatisfied with your purchase when you receive it, I'll be happy to accept it back and to refund your purchase price.
