Description: THESE 2 CARDS ARE RARE PROMO-SAMPLE (HAVE SEEN ONLY ONE OTHER SET IN 25 YEARS)THEY WERE IN A SAFETY DEPOSIT BOX DURING THE PURCHASE OF A PRIVATE COLLECTION FROM FORMER UPPER DECK EXECUTIVE (PAUL SUMNER) THE MAIN PART OF COLLECTION WAS 1000 UNOPENED CASES PURCHASED BACK IN 2002 AND THEN THESE 2 CARDS LESS THAN 20 of each EXIST So Let’s cut to the chase here............ One of the rarest cards in the hobby These are a MILLION times rarer than the “no copyright” versions that have sold for 1K This listing is for the 1990 Upper Deck Ken Griffey Jr and Mark McGwire Proof Card pictured (the unopened upper deck box and ad shown are not part of the listing). It's one of his rarest cards. Upper Deck pictured these proof cards on Wax Boxes as well as a Reggie Jackson promotional ad. The 1990 upper deck proof cards are very rare as only a few of each exist and were only made for the cards on the 100s sheet (cards numbered 101-200 in the regular set). As mentioned, these cards were used by Upper Deck in a number of really neat ways before the regular cards were produced. First, on the Low Series Wax Boxes, all of the cards pictured on the box are proof cards as they have no position in the gray box on the front top left hand side. As mentioned, they used these proof cards for the box as all of the cards pictured on the box are numbered between 101-200 in the set. I'd note that on the Upper Deck Box, they show cards with the players name on the bottom right hand side of the card even though they ultimately printed the names on the bottom left hand side of the card. This proof card was obviously made before they decided which side to put the player's name on. As seen in the picture, Ken Griffey Jr was one of the cards on the box. Secondly, Upper Deck produced a Reggie Jackson promotional ad for 1990 that used these proof cards too. At the bottom of the ad (also in the pictures) are 8 more of the cards from the 101-200 sheet and all of them have the player position missing as well. The Griffey Jr. card was also used in the ad. The proof cards were all printed with no player position in the gray box on the front of the card and with no player name on the front either. The back of the card is missing the stats, card number, hologram etc. Junk wax gems recently wrote an article on these cards.
