Description: 3 Brilliant Uncirculated Kennedy Half Dollars 1965 S, 1966 S, & 1967 S SMS MS 67 in One Giant NGC Holder! In the mid 60s, the U.S. Mint took a break from making proof coinage. There was a shortage of change and they blamed the collectors, but really it was because people were hoarding the old 90% silver that the mint stopped producing in 1964. The half dollar still had a composition of 40% silver through 1970. Instead of making proof or mint sets, the mint made "Special Mint Sets," with extraordinary coins made from high-quality dies. So they have a distinctive proof-like finish to them, kind of in between uncirculated and proof, that was limited to just these three years. So with this you get an unusual NGC holder (who knows how much they charge, it costs $40 now to do just one coin) with three superior specimens of a unique mint run. What a great piece of history!! This holder includes three brilliant Kennedy Halves struck at the San Francisco mint in one holder measuring about 4.75" x 6.5" These MS 70 are a great addition to any collection.
