Description: We are offering four cdv photos of women and one tintype of a girl. All are very probably relatives of Samuel W. Woodhouse of Philadelphia. These photos & a selection of other photos were discovered in a personal photo album that had belonged to Samuel W. Woodhouse, the noted Philadelphia naturalist, surgeon and explorer who took part in the Sitgreaves and other expeditions. A number of the cdv photos in the album were of various well known people as well as of Woodhouse relatives and others whom we were unable to identify. All listings of cdvs from the Woodhouse album have the name Woodhouse in the listing titles. The first CDV is of a beautiful woman standing by a chair. The photo has the back mark of the photographer "J. Cremer & Co., Artists, No. 18 South Eighth Street, Philadelphia ." The cdv is circa 1860's & measures 4 inches by 2 7/16 inches. The back shows signs of once having a revenue stamp which is no longer present. The second cdv photo is of another beautiful woman. The photo has the back mark of the photographer "Dupont Bruxelles 67 Rue Neuve 67". The bottom front of mat is marked "Dupont. Phot. Bruxelles". The cdv is circa 1860's - 1870's & measures 4 1/8 inches by 2 1/2 inches. The third cdv photo is of another beautiful woman. The photo has the back mark of the photographer "M. P. Simons 1320 Chestnut St. Philada." The cdv is circa 1870's & measures 3 15/16 inches by 2 15/32 inches. The corner tips of the mat have slight trim that was performed in period to expedite album insertion. The fourth cdv photo is of another woman. The photo has the back mark of the photographer "O. D. DeMorat Photographer Sthe. Eight St. Philada." The cdv is circa 1870's & measures 4 1/8 inches by 2 1/2 inches. This small tintype photograph was identified in the Woodhouse album in which it was found as Lizzie McClellan. She must have been someone closely associated with Samuel Woodhouse, either a relative or the daughter of a friend but we have been unable to determine what the connection is. The tintype measures 1 inch by 3/4 inch. The condition may be seen in the photos that accompany this listing. This item is inventory #5029.
