Cowles, MD. From an Ohio estate, there were some early 1900 lapel pins for this Dr, thus the dating. Painted on very thick glass, 3/16". There is no frame, this is as it was when I purchased it from the estate. One could frame it as they see fit. Letters are beautifully outlined in rich gold and filled in white. Black ground. As you can see there is loss to the reverse painting. Still it reads well and is a hard to find item, nice addition to an early medicine, trade sign, folk art collection. Condition is good for it's age. There is no breakage or repairs to the glass, the edges are nice and clean, no obvious chipping. The painting on back is not flaking off, it has in the past come off however as you can see. Likely due to being out of a frame. I tried to get a pic of it standing so you can see through it and more easily recognize the missing paint parts in both the black and white letters. I've had this on a shelf for almost 20 years and it has been stable, and unhandled really. Measures approx. 19" l. x 4" t. x 3/16" thick glass. Selling as is, as shown and described, as always.
