He is recorded as having two houses in England, one in Scarborough and the other in Liverpool allowing him to capture scenes from both East and West coasts. Meegan was a pupil of Atkinson Grimshaw who's influence can be found in many of his works. Age- c1880-1900 Size- 14.5 by 20.5 inches approx including frame, canvas 12 by 18 inches approx. Medium- Oil on canvas. Frame- Old wooden slip frame, some knocks and losses, offered free with the painting. Condition- We would be very happy to hang this one as found- it is very atmospheric. Some thinner paint areas by design and some bitumen bubble to the darker areas including the hull of the boat. Some varnish browning and the odd light mark in places, light frame abrasion and some varnish bloom. Signature- Lower left, indistinct inscription to the reverse.
