Description: Bomba the Jungle Boy was the Stratemeyer Syndicate's answer to Tarzan. In 1926, the Stratemeyers, a year before launching their most successful series ever, The Hardy Boys, offered another line to the boys' adventure genre in Bomba. The first three books were released simultaneously in 1926; this copy is one of that first edition (as it lists only to the third title in the front matter). The initial editions were published by Cupples & Leon; later, they would be reissued by Grosset & Dunlap. The Cupples & Leon editions are somewhat hard to find -- like many young readers' series of the time, they were printed on inexpensive paper and received rough handling from their intended audience. This is a first-edition copy of Bomba the Jungle Boy, or the Old Naturalist's Secret, ghost written by Stratemeyer staffers and credited to "Roy Rockwood." Here are the condition notes: Acceptable used condition for its age. No DJ. Exterior shows significant wear, including edge rubbing and well-worn corners, worn through the veneer in several places. Wear is particularly noticeable at the top of the exterior spine (see photo.) Yellow boards show moderate discoloration from age. There is separation at EPs front and back. Binding is otherwise intact but loose. There is an ex libris panel printed into the FEPs, and this has been filled in by a previous owner. The interior is otherwise clean and unmarked with well- and evenly-tanned pages.
