Description: Original British 1853 Pattern Sword Made in Nepal in good condition. Blade has some lifting in the finish, but no major pitting. Original makers mark is still highly visible (picture 3). The sword has a three-bar hilt reminiscent of the 1822 patter, but the similarities end there. Unlike the Pipe-Backed 1822, the 1853 has a fullered, slightly curved blade with a spear point tip. It is intended to be both a thrusting and a cutting sword, but is specialized in neither function. This was largely because this was the first sword that would be issued to light and heavy calvary units.
