Description: Debbie Patrick Signed original numbered 166/500 Unique three dimensional picture of the famous San Francisco Cable Car San Francisco Cable Car of the Powell & Hyde streets Size is approx 20"x16" Nielsen aluminum frame Inscribed "Andrew Hallidie, a British born engineer, began devising his plans for a streetcar, propelled by underground cables in 1870. In 1872, he received a franchise from the city to construct a cable car roadway on Clay Street. The cabe car's forward motion is controlled by a grip which extends down into a slot in the street. In this slot is a continuous steel cable which travels about 800 feet a minute, driven by a large electric motor in the main carbarn. When the gripman pulls the lever back, the mechanism grips the cable like a closing hand and the car moves forward". Size is approx 20"x16". Nielsen aluminum frame. Condition is excellent.
