Description: Tyndale Bible CommentariesThe Epistle to the Hebrews an Introduction and Commentaryby Thomas Hewitt A concise, workable tool for laymen, teachers, and ministersR.V.G., General Editor The Epistle to the Hebrews is, perhaps, the most theological book in the New Testament, Christology, soteriology and eschatology play an important part in this work, while the doctrine of man, though not quite so prominent, is certainly not absent. There are only two brief references, however, to the Church and one of these is a quotation absence of any reference to the sacrament of the Lord's Supper. There are a number of passages which are extremely difficult to elucidate, and this may be the reason for its lack of popularity in some quarters, but non of these difficulties has been consciously avoided in this verse-by-verse commentary. Many works have been consulted but the three commentaries which have been my constant companion and from which I gave received the most help are William Manson's , Westcott's and Moffatt's. This Epistle is set apart from all other books in the New Testament by its reference to the priesthood of Christ. The importance and necessity of this aspect of Christ's life can never be exaggerated, and how much poorer the New Testament would have been without any reference to Christ's priesthood! Indeed it would not be untrue to say that the New Testament would not have been complete without this important subject.
