Huge sketch for the mural Eugeni Noormagi made for the Radiumstationen/ Institute for radiotherapy in Copenhagen in 1937. The radium station in Copenhagen was independent and part of the Niels Finsen's Institute. Established for light treatment of skin tuberculosis and other uses of radiation therapy. Eugeni Noormagi did the murals in bright pastel colors and used inspiration from chemical light rays used in radiation therapy as well as phototherapy, as a tribute to Danish physician Niels Ryberg Finsens discovery of light therapy for which he received the Nobel Prize in Medicine. The watercolor is matted and framed with acrylic glass which all will be shipped. A rare work by Estonian-Danish female painter, Eugeni Noormagi (1903-1988) A certificate of authenticity and history of the artwork will be included with this work. There is an old label on the back explaining the sketch is 1:10 scale meaning the finished mural was around 7 meters high and 4 meters wide. Name of architect of the building: Vilhelm Rudolph Groth-Hansen ( 1898-1967) Eugeni Noormagi was commissioned to do two large murals for the Institute and began working on them in the period 1936-1937. Her finished wall murals were on display at the Laboratory section at the institute and unveiled in March 1937. Otherwise fine with no missing bits or tears. Eugeni Noormagi Hansen (1903-1988) Important female modernist Painter. Born in Tatru, Estonia in 1903. She moved to the USA in the early 1920s and worked in New York from 1921. She attended the Academy of Design in New York from 1925-1927. She lived in Denmark where she attended the Royal Art Academy in Copenhagen from 1933- 1937. She was a pupil of Danish Professor Aksel Jorgensen and Elof Risebye from 1949-1954 . She remained in Denmark and married a Dane, changing her name from Noormagi to Hansen. In Denmark she exhibited at the artists fall exhibition in 1956 and at the Royal Charlottenborg shows from 1959-1965. She also resided in France where she from 1944-1950, attended The Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris and was private pupil of Fernand Leger and Andre Lhote.
