Description: For sale is a stunning IWC GST Chronograph, reference IW372701 in full titanium. A beautiful, timeless design from the 1990s that looks as good as it gets. The titanium 36.5mm case is decently wearable on the right sized wrist, and the matching titanium bracelet adds to the charm. Dial is fully black with a tachymeter scale for the chronograph, white hands and printing for legibility, and fully lumed. This is a watch for the enthusiast that wants something that looks great, stands out from the myriad of similar designs, and built by one of the great horological houses. It's powered by the Jaeger-LeCoultre produced cal. 631, a unique quartz movement with a mechanical chronograph. Of course, the branding on the main bridge is IWC, but it actually is a JLC produced movement. It has two motors, one powering the watch at 1 Hz, while the other powering the chronograph at 4 Hz. That can be noticed as the seconds hand moves by 1 second, while the chronograph seconds move closer to the movement of a mechanical watch. The titanium bracelet is short. It has 14 links in total, while these may have been sold brand new with 19 or 20 links. It measures 14cm (5.5") from lug to lug and should fit a wrist circumference of up to 17.5cm (6.8"). Links are of course available online and maybe even in IWC boutiques, but they add to the cost, so take that into account if you have a bigger wrist. Lume on the indexes and hands is intact with no sign of degradation. Tritium lume on the dial charges faintly by UV light and loses the charge almost immediately. Lume on the hands has a blueish tint and charges a bit more bright, but it also loses the charge quickly. That is to be expected on tritium lume. The case has normal signs of use, with light scratches and tiny dings. Matte titanium tends to pick up and show scratches more than stainless steel, so the overall condition of the case is pretty good. The case back has a couple of scratches and a bit of damage on two of the tool channels. Nothing major however. The crown and pushers are original to the watch and in great condition. Screw down crown screws and unscrews without issues. Bracelet also has light scratches from normal use and minimal flex. It has an unusual, at least to me, system of pins to hold the links together. If you plan on resizing it yourself, it has a push button on the underside that holds the pins. You'll need to keep the button pushed, while pushing the pin on the side. It needs some getting used to. Movement looks clean with no major signs, and it's keeping good time. Time setting is smooth. Date advances automatically every 24 hours or via the crown quickset. When advancing automatically, date starts to advance at approximately 12 o'clock and finishes at approximately 12:30. Chronograph starts, stops, and resets correctly. Minute and hour counters also work. The hour counter doesn't reset exactly at zero, but a couple of degrees to the right. It's a minor thing really, but if you ever decide to send it for a service, it should be an easy fix for any watchmaker. Remember, this is a quartz movement with a mechanical chronograph, so the mechanical part will need cleaning and oiling as any watch movement. Movement Service The movement's service history is unknown and I haven't personally sent it for a service. The battery hasn't been changed while in my possession. Although it runs well, keep in mind you're buying a vintage watch. If you care for it to function properly in the future, a service will be needed. Waterproof The watch has no water proof rating, but I imagine it's 30m (3 ATM), and that means at most you can wash your hands while wearing it or use it under rain. In no circumstances should it be used under the shower or for swimming. The watch should be tested by a watchmaker and any gaskets replaced to make sure its water resistance is in spec. Thankfully these are usually correctible by any decent watchmaker, but will be a cost to your watch that I will not be responsible.
