Its known for its color changing characteristics, natural Alexandrite is an extremely rare and valuable gemstone. The process follows the same concept as our created emeralds, using the same properties which are found in natural Alexandrite. The result is an alluring achievement, as we create the same properties and color change which is found in their natural counterpart. Often described by gem fanatics as “emerald by day, ruby by night,” Alexandrite is the very rare color-change variety of the mineral chrysoberyl. Originally discovered in Russia’s Ural Mountains in the 1830s, it’s now found in Sri Lanka, East Africa, and Brazil, but fine material is highly treasured. The main elements of the “Pulling process” is synthetic chrysoberyl, silicon, and metals, most of which can be found in natural Alexandrite. Unlike the hydrothermal process which uses an autoclave, the pulling process uses a crucible instead.Hence, a synthetic chrysoberyl seed is mounted on a rod and dipped into the molten mixture. The rod is slowly pulled upwards and rotated at the same time. The outcome is a large single-crystal, created from the molten broth. The whole process takes about 1 week to complete.
