Except for some cover surface stains and extremity and spine fading, this book is clean and solid, with a very clean interior, quite suitable for collecting and/or gifting. One of Henry van Dyke’s more popular titles, being poetry, he’s also well known for The Other Wise Man (1896) as well as for being an American-born educator, diplomat and clergyman. Mr. van Dyke (1852-1933) was educated at Princeton University, graduating in 1873, and Princeton Theological Seminary, graduating in 1877. He served as an English Literature professor at Princeton during the years 1899 to 1923. He was appointed the U.S. Minister to Netherlands and Luxembourg in 1913, serving until 1917; during the First World War, he played a pivotal role in helping Americans displaced by the war. As a clergyman, he officiated at Mark Twain’s funeral, and counted Helen Keller among his numerous friends and acquaintances. Book’s been stored in a smoke free home with three short haired pets.
