Description: Noritake Sugar No Lid 12 Oz Japan 1948-1953 Goldkin #4985 Floral w/Gold Black Exquisite Decorative RIMMED SUGAR BOWL, without/LID, 12 OZ Regular Size, GOLD & BLACK FLORAL Band w/Gold Trim, GOLDKIN #4985, from Noritake, Japan, circa 1948-1953 DESCRIPTION: This beautiful hand decorated sugar bowl without a lid was produced in a beautiful black floral pattern on the wide gold band. Each piece in the Goldkin pattern has the same colorful decoration. The design looks so classic. The floral bands are on light cream while the interior of each is the high white of the porcelain as is the wide band next to the foot. Rims are trimmed in gold. The handles are the high white of the porcelain and trimmed with stripes of gold. This makes a beautiful display sugar bowl or a replacement for your broken sugar bowl. We have many more of this GOLDKIN pattern items in our eBay store. Please pay close attention to the Pattern #4985 (the oldest one) since Noritake has several Goldkin patterns. CONDITION: While bowl minus the lid is classified as used, the condition is superb. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines. There are no utensil marks & no wear to the gold. DIMENSIONS: The rimmed sugar bowl has a diameter of 5" while the measurement from handle to handle is 7" with a height of 3 3/4" to the top of the handles. The capacity of the sugar bowl is 12 ounces. Your replacement lid needs: We have the mini sugar bowl with its lid. So we compared the fit of that lid to the bowl. The replacement lid needs to be large enough to fit inside the inner diameter of the opening and large enough to cover the area of the porcelain inside the gold ring around the opening. So the flange of the lid needs to measure slightly less than 3 1/16" to fit inside the diameter of the opening and the outer measurement needs to be just less than 3 3/8" to cover the porcelain on the opening of the bowl. Thanks for asking, Susan & Bill HISTORY/MARKS: Morimura Bros. formed the trading and decorating company in 1876 which evolved into Noritake. Noritake Company has a rich history of producing porcelain china all the way from January 1, 1904 when the Nippon Toki Kaisha Ltd - the forerunner to the present Noritake Company - was formed in the village of Noritake, a small suburb near Nagoya, Japan with its huge kaolin clay sources. The first reported U.S. registry for a Noritake backstamp for importing is 1911. The backstamp on this piece is the gold M-in-Wreath Mark with Noritake on the top. Under that is "Japan". In Collecting Noritake A to Z Art Deco & More, David Spain shows that Noritake substituted Japan for Nippon in their backstamps starting in 1918. Spain identifies this mark as #47.2 which was used 1933-1953. The Goldkin pattern was produced from 1948-1975. So, the limits the time period for this set to 1948-1953.
