Description: VIETNAM ERA US PARATROOP HELMET w/ 1967 LINER & LATE WAR CAMO COVER. Steel helmet has rear seam and marked to frontal interior w/ "heat number" 1 8491 (last digit might be 4 rather than 1), indicating Ingersoll maker. Buckle and both fittings securing web chinstrap w/ male snaps on proximal ends to swivel bales are marked w/ anchor maker trademark; T2 breakaway device is affixed to buckle. There is a cluster of four superficial dents to steel helmet right frontal exterior, with corresponding loss of paint to interior; there is a solitary superficial dent to rear near top. Steel helmet exterior rear appears to have been repainted with a different shade of olive green than the remainder of the helmet; the colors blend much better than appears in photo(s). Liner has probably been repainted during its service life, and there is trace of red paint to left rear quarter, probably unintentional from proximity to another paint job. Liner suspension is marked w/ nomenclature (TYPE II) and date 31 MAY 67; crown interior is marked MI behind a much smaller 1. Web A-harness w/ brass (non-magnetic) buckle (for web liner paratroop chinstrap) and female snap (mates w/ male snap on steel helmet chinstraps) present on each side (Left & Right) of liner interior. The liner also has three small buckles for the neckband. Headband/sweatband, web liner paratroop chinstrap, and web neckband are missing and not included, but are readily available from other sellers. This listing does include a later printing of the instruction booklet issued with the Type II (parachutist) liner beginning in 1964; a few pages are shown in listing photos. Unfortunately, page 19 illustrates ground troop steel helmet worn with parachutist liner, so does not show proximal end of paratroop steel helmet chinstrap w/ male snap, which--when fastened--prevents separation of steel helmet from liner, but accurately depicts the liner. This merely shows that individual(s) tasked with describing and illustrating military equipment sometimes are not as well informed as they should be, and was (were) probably not Airborne qualified. A late Vietnam Era 1973-74 Mitchell reversible green/brown camo helmet cover is included.
