Nice example of animation history, the cel is a one of a kind piece! WHAT IS AN ANIMATION CEL? Animation cels are used in creating an animated sequence by hand, the planners take drawings(usually hand drawn pencil art) and transfer it to a transparent sheet of plastic(usually acetate) called a "cel". The outline is inked on one side of the cel(front) and the color is hand painted onto the other side. The cel is then laid on top of a background(quote often a hand painted or watercolored piece) and photographed in sequence. Played back at 12 or 24 frames second it gives the appearance of movement.
